Sensitivity To The Right Things
‘For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.’ Mark 6:52
Today’s Insight: Mark 6:52
Most of the time, we think of a person with a hard heart as being someone who is in terrible rebellion to God. While it is true that a rebellious person does have a hardened heart, in this instance, the Word is referring to the disciples’ hearts being hardened. They were, ‘sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered’ at Jesus walking on the water.
The word ‘hardened’ as used here, means ‘to make calloused, unyielding or cold in spirit, or insensitive to.’ The disciples were not God haters, but rather they had become so sensitive to the natural world and its limitations that they were overwhelmed to see Jesus supersede these laws. Therefore, they had a hardened heart.
If they had kept in mind the miracle they had just seen Jesus perform (the feeding of the five thousand), then they wouldn’t have been amazed to see Jesus walking on the water toward them. After all, He had constrained them to get into the ship and was therefore responsible for them. He was just a short distance away from them, and was in the same storm himself, so they knew He was aware of their situation. They should have been expecting Jesus to come and save them, even if He had to walk on the water to do it.
Many of us are more sensitive to fear and doubt than we are to the truths of God’s Word. This is because we have thought more on things that minister fear and doubt. We can take these laws about hardening our hearts and use them in a positive way. We can actually harden our hearts to doubt by considering only God’s Word. It is a possible and obtainable goal to become just as sensitive to God and faith as we have been to Satan and doubt. Meditate on God’s Word today.

This is enlightening! I pray that I will be more sensitive and in tune to the word of God; staunch in my faith in such a way that I will not yield to doubt in my circumstances! I will choose to focus on what God’s word says at all times so help me sweet Holy Spirit.
One thing I have noticed is that as I meditate on the word of God daily I am strengthened in the faith and doubt begins to be decreased and eventually gone, though some times they do come back it doesn’t mean they can stay but i have the means to push them out. Situations will always be around us but we should not forget that we can always use the word to counter attack, to smoothen our worries and to boost up our faith.
Very insightful. Thank you very much. I pray that God will direct our hearts so that we become sensitive to him alone. With a hardened heart we can never see his glory or his purpose in our lives, in fact we can still believe in him but the absence of faith can hinder our supernatural blessings. God is the only one who can heal and soften our hearts. The bible makes it clear in Ex 9 that God hardened Pharaoh’s heart.
Exodus 9v12
But the LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart and he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said to Moses
So the maker of heavens and earth who hardened Pharaohs heart so that Moses and Aaron performs for the Israelites to see the glory of God is also able to soften our hearts as
Proberbs 21v1 says
The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turns it wherever he will.
Bless you.
Powerful Word! I will aim to harden my heart toward doubt and fear and be only sensitive to God and faith. I can only achieve this if I continually eliminate thoughts in my mind centred around fear and doubt and substitute them with the Word as I meditate and study the Bible.
I am encouraged , I pray that I don’t become overwhelmed and sensitive to the natural world but rather be sensitive to the word of God. (Ezekiel 36:26 )And I will give you a new heart and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony ,stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.?
Wow! Powerful sis Thess, it’s very encouraging to hear from you. And you know, Ezekiel 36:26 is one of my favourite scriptures. I was trying to remember it this morning but couldn’t, thank you for this!
The importance of getting into the word daily simply can’t be overemphasised. As we read and read, our hardened heart are transformed to be sensitive to the Spirit and His works!
As we meditate each day on the word of God, we will become more sensitive to Him who is the author & finisher of our faith.
True, the only way to combat Satan is by the word of God. We have to equip ourselves with the knowledge of Gods word and it’s promises by reading our bible & spending time with Him every day.
